Whistler Blackcomb 2008 Opening Day

Although Opening Day for 2008 has not been offically set just yet a few lucky people where able to get up the mountain and make some early seasons turns in the recent 30cm snowfall. Like many of you here in Vancouver we are also anxiously watching the Whistler Blackcomb alpine webcams.

As ski season approaches we always make a concerned effort to get in ski shape to help prevent injury, and build strength. The Grouse grind in North Vancouver is our favorite pre ski season routine.

Fortress Seeks Financing for Whistler Blackcomb

The Intrawest ski resort company has $1.68 billion in debt due Oct. 23, and the company’s owner, New York-based Fortress Investment Group, is struggling to rearrange financing to keep the operation afloat, according to a report published in the Financial Times on Friday.

Intrawest owns 10 ski operations and about 15 vacation resorts around North America, including Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Blue Mountain in Ontario, Panorama in British Columbia and two heli-skiing operations.

New York-based Fortress controls Intrawest via a $1.37-billion equity stake that it bought two years ago. People familiar with Fortress say there is a low probability Intrawest will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the Financial Times reported.

Whistler Olympic Rental Properties and Homes

Rents may top $100,000 a month for luxury homes in Whistler during Olympics

WHISTLER - Owners of luxury homes in Whistler are looking for rents in the $100,000-a-month range for the Winter Olympics.

 

“I would say we are looking at $8,000 to $15,000 per bedroom for a 31-day period,” said Sylvia Koltzenburg, who is running an Olympic accommodation matchmaking service. “We’ve certainly got homes over $100,000. It all depends on the number of bedrooms. It’s easy to get $90,000 if you have a fairly high-end home here.”

Koltzenburg has been fielding scores of calls and e-mails since she started advertising earlier this year.
