78 condo buyers in limbo as developer defaults
Developer of The Sophia Bill Eden says he is out of money. The luxury condo building has gone into receivership, leaving 78 presold units in limbo.
“Unfortunately we’ve run as others have into large overruns at The Sophia,” he said. “It’s difficult to get trades (tradeworkers). Costs have skyrocketed, and we’ve ended up in a situation where the bank has taken over.”
The building promised “sophisticated uptown living” at 298 East 11th Avenue in Vancouver and housed a total of 81 units with hardwood floors and granite countertops.

NO development — period — for Site 8 is what the Lonsdale Citizens Association wants in lieu of a proposed 400-foot residential tower on the city’s waterfront.
“We totally reject any proposals,” Ivan Leonard, co-chairman of the LCA, told council Monday. “The OCP is what we have to protect.
“The city should not sell city-owned land. It’s the last piece of property we have on the waterfront. Preserve it, protect it for future generations,” he said before an overflow crowd of some 100 supporters. Each supporter wore red as a symbol against a proposed 36-storey development advanced by Millenium Developments in October 2007 for the southeast corner of Esplanade Avenue and Rogers Avenue.

Tim Ayres from Royal LePage Coast Capital Realty in Victoria posted a fantastic blog that I wanted to share with everyone here in Vancouver. He expressed 14 great tips for Realtors to follow for their personal saftey. The real estate community in Vancouver extends its deepest sympathies to Lindsay Buziak’s family and friends.
Here are a few safety tips for REALTORS®:
-
When you are introduced to new clients, meet them in your office first.
-
Photocopy a client’s driver’s license, obtain the car make, and license number.
-
Ask them to complete a client identification form and verify the client’s identity.
