Facebook is one of the world’s most popular websites, but good luck finding Vancouver Island or Victoria on it.
But as the social networking phenomenon known as Facebook balloons — now with more than 27 million members — local users say they’re annoyed they can’t register as living on Vancouver Island.
There’s Wenatchee, Wash., and Kalamazoo, Mich. Or — if you can find a computer with a reliable Internet connection in one of Earth’s poorest countries — there’s even Malawi, East Africa.
More than 11,000 Islanders have joined a petition group urging Facebook to create a Vancouver Island “network” that would unite them with a specific online identity.
